Approximately fifty vehicles have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to police.
Cars, building surfaces and postboxes were marked, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they announced in a release.
Officers report they were alerted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a individual discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored liquid.
The substance had been placed in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Officers then discovered multiple other vandalized vehicles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Police state early analysis suggest the fluid was likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no lead as to its origin; authorities are currently not aware of any injuries in association with the occurrence," they stated.
Local authorities announced they were trying "to solve the mystery" and have asked to the community for details.
A high-ranking official said the attack rendered him stunned and required to be resolved quickly.
"This act hits the very heart of Hanau and revives the trauma of the extremist terrorist attack five years ago," he posted on social media, mentioning the death of nine victims by a assailant targeting people of migrant background in 2020.
